Requirements for Imbolc Ritual

Staff (which carries elemental, God and Goddess symbols)
Paper with the ritual printed on it
Corn dolly from Lughnasadh 2006
Firelighting device (box of matches or candle-lighter)

The Process

Find somewhere quiet, where it is possible to light a fire without harming anyone or anything, for example a tarmac road in the Fens.

Ground and center

Cast circle, and request presence of elementals and deities to witness ritual.

Lay corn dolly on the tarmac, in the firepit etc

Recite ritual

Tuck sheet of paper under corn dolly and set fire to both

Watch corn dolly and paper burn, and at the same time, will the spirit of the corn to return to the fields for the year ahead.

When fire is out, blow the ash gently to spread.

Thank the elementals and deities for their presence

Open circle.
Make sure everything is as you found it.

Go home.

An Simple Imbolc Ritual

On this night of a Moon’s full
And the land begins anew
I ask for your assistance to work this,
my will
My hopes for the year renewed.

The targets set before me

Achievable will be

My best efforts I will put forth

And in the return, may effort show its worth.

May those who wish ill to me and mine

Find their attempts well entwined.

May the mirror around us be shiny and bright

All the better to deflect the blight .

Ill will is reflected back

Such that it, a real punch will pack.

In as much as is able,

May our health and wealth be stable.

This is my prayer to thee, Lady Sekhmet

Thy will and mine are well met.

Imbolc Intentions

My intention this Imbolc was to set in motion my plans and hopes for the year, and in doing so, sow the seeds which I would hope to Harvest at the end of this year at Samhain.

Having learned from previous years, the Goddess will help those who help themselves, hence my pledge to engage my best efforts in achieving the sales targets set by my employers. That said, I hope also that the targets are both realistic and achieveable.

My son has faced a lot of flack from certain individuals who attend the same school as him. My Imbolc prayer is that all their ill behaviour will be reflected back at them. In doing so, I hope that they will learn that they harm themselves more by behaving in such a manner. There have been echoes of unpleasant behaviour which I encountered in a previous employment, which likewise, I would prefer to be reflected back to its originator. It is a shame that so much of that behaviour is the result of envy or ignorance or insecurity about their own attributes and abilities.

Then, I would not be human if I did not hope for good health and stability in my life and finances for the year. This year will include my sister's wedding in Italy, and my wish for a continued good life for her is implicit in this part of my ritual.
