Beltaine clouds over the Fens |
Spiritual significance of Beltaine My son came up with a wonderful description of the energies and the blossoming life that abounds at Beltaine, when he was about five years old. He felt that the reason why the hedgerows around his grandparents' home were so full of flowers was because the Goddess was getting excited about her marriage to the God, and that the flowers were her bridal bouquet. Admittedly my (Roman Catholic) father was a bit surprised by this statement. Nothing like being 'outed' by your own child! Beltaine is that: it is a celebration of the union of the Goddess and the God, coming together as adults. It is full of the raw energy of passion and, of course, of lust. For me, it has particular significance, because my husband and I married on 12th May 1990, which was as close to Beltaine as we could manage. The world around us is responding to that raw energy, in flower and amongst the wildlife. The trees are in leaf and life is full of promise. |
